We staged an awareness raising event at Orton Square in Leicester to launch our manifesto. Accompanied by the Sing to Breathe Easy choir (a choir composed of people with breathing difficulties), participants laid 250 daffodils in a pseudo-memorial. Each daffodil represented a Leicester resident who is estimated to have died prematurely last year of pollution related causes.
The event marked the official launch of a manifesto for clean air that HALL has put together. This manifesto contains 12 points that, the group believes, could drastically reduce the unsafe pollution levels in the city when implemented.
Stephen Massey, spokesperson for the group said “We are very pleased with how the event was received. All the people that I spoke to were very positive and also moved by the event. We hope that our manifesto, which has been sent to the council, will also be positively received and will help to inform actions to reduce Leicester's shocking air-pollution levels.”
The event was reported in the Leicester Mercury and on BBC East Midlands Today.
