Who are we?
Healthy Air Leicester and Leicestershire is an alliance of local groups and individuals. The local groups supporting the campaign are:
- Leicester Friends of the Earth
- Leicester Cycle Campaign Group
- Sustrans Leicester
- Greenlight Festival
- Leicester Campaign for Better Transport
We aim to work together to:
1. Raise awareness of the problem of air pollution and the link to health and wellbeing.
2. Encourage people to make smarter travel choices.
3. Influence policy-makers to take action to reduce air pollution.
One of our individual supporters is Andy Wardlaw, a professor of respiratory medicine, who has contributed to the information on the health effects of air pollution in our Resources Library. He sent this message:
"Outdoor air pollution, which mainly comes from vehicles, affects everyone in some way, but especially children whose lungs are developing and people with problems with their lungs and heart. It can aggravate conditions like asthma, COPD and bronchitis and particulates are a recognised and important cause of increased deaths in Europe and the USA from respiratory and heart disease. We need to do all we can to
tackle the causes of air pollution to improve our health. I fully support Healthy Air Leicester and Leicestershire’s campaign to raise awareness of this problem."
At Greenlight Festival in March 2014, some of our individual supporters posed for a photo to show their support.
